Professional Nurse
Growing up on a sheep farm in the Great Karoo, Sr Lare Marais Saunders developed a deep appreciation for community, resilience, and caring for others. She is truly our “Desert Flower”—warm, vibrant, and always eager to grow. From a young age, she knew that a career in healthcare was her calling and has remained passionate about becoming the very best nurse she can be.
Sr Lare completed her general nursing training in George before gaining valuable experience in a specialised wound care clinic. Driven by her passion for caring for women and families, she went on to further her studies in midwifery, expanding her knowledge and skills to provide comprehensive care across all stages of life.
At Pastorie Clinic, Sr Lare works closely alongside Dr van der Merwe, caring for patients of all ages and playing a vital role in the day-to-day running of the clinic. She provides compassionate medical and emergency care and leads our Mother and Baby Clinic, supporting families from pregnancy through the early years of childhood.
Her qualifications in midwifery enable her to provide dedicated care for expectant mothers, newborns, and young families, while her background in specialised wound care allows her to support patients of all ages with post-operative recovery, chronic wound management, and the treatment of acute injuries. Together, these skills make her an invaluable member of the Pastorie Clinic team and allow us to offer a broader range of services to our community.
When she is not at the clinic, Sr Lare enjoys making the most of the outdoors. Whether she is horse riding, exploring the countryside on her motorbike, cycling, hiking, or simply spending time in nature, she embraces an adventurous spirit and a love for the landscapes she has always called home. Her energy, resilience, and appreciation for the natural world are reflected in the compassionate care she brings to every patient she meets.
“Sr Lare believes that every patient deserves to be cared for with kindness, respect, and genuine compassion. For her, nursing is not simply a profession—it is a calling to make a positive difference, one patient, one family, and one community at a time.”
